Should I tell my dentist that I’m nervous?

It’s always best to talk to us about your nerves, as this means that we are sure to understand exactly how you feel before you come in to see us. There are a number of ways that you can do this, including when you book your appointment, via email, or even on the day of the appointment. No matter when you let us know that you’re nervous, you can be sure that we will make you feel at ease as much as possible.

How we can help you

We find that the best way to calm nerves is to offer patients as much information as possible. Therefore, we always ensure that we tell you exactly what we’re doing as we do it, meaning nothing will take you by surprise. We will check that we’re okay to proceed with anything that happens, and nothing will happen unless you’re completely okay with it.

We will also make sure that you have plenty of pain relief during procedures, and we can also offer you sedation if you feel that this would help your nerves.

The nitrous oxide we use in sedation dentistry is so effective that you shouldn’t feel anything during your appointment.

What is laughing gas?

Nitrous oxide is a colorless and odorless gas that has become very popular as a safe and easily controlled form of sedation during dental procedures. Unlike other forms of sedation that require IVs or injections, laughing gas is easily administered through a face mask.

As you inhale nitrous oxide, it gradually slows your body’s reaction time. Without immediate responses to pain and fear, you can coast through your dental appointment feeling calm and relaxed.

Can laughing gas be used for children?

Laughing gas is the preferred method of dental sedation for children because it’s safe, simple, and easy to control. Even if your child isn’t going to experience significant pain during a treatment, you might request laughing gas to minimize anxiety or fear and help them sit calmly.

Of course, laughing gas also works efficiently for adults! Nitrous oxide offers a reliable and fast-acting way to address your discomfort and anxiety.

Laughing gas is also our preferred method of sedation because it doesn’t knock you out or cause a long recovery period. You remain awake and alert while using laughing gas, but with the added benefit of feeling relaxed and unaware of pain. Nitrous oxide also wears off quickly, so you feel normal as you walk out of your procedure.

For any type of treatment or level of anxiety, we have a solution that will help you experience a calm and pain-free appointment with us.
